ELECTION FOR CHANGE
Election for Change
When you say you want change, I assume you mean for the good.
What is it you want to change . . . things, people, jobs, politicians?
I guess if you want to change cars or a husband you just go and do it if you’ve got the money; but if you’re fed up with your life you’ve got to do something more global . . . like elect some politician who says he or she will change everything for the better.
Okay, so let’s see what the politicians in Washington are able to do to make your life better.
Make food cost less?
Reduce the price of oil?
Pay off your 30 year mortgage?
Get your kid into a good college?
Get you a promotion or a better job?
Make you take better care of yourself?
No? They can’t do any of those things? Why not?
Because their laws don’t set food or oil prices, the market does; and if they try to put in price control the farmers will go out of business or go do something else. Remember the long lines at gas stations during the oil embargo? Ten dollar gas is better than no gas. Okay, so we’re not that old, but we do study history.
What about the six other things on the wish list?
A quick glance tells you they are all competitive just like the market for oil and other commodities. Colleges can take in just so many students, so they select – that’s competition. The same is true of getting your job or a promotion. Not everyone can have that particular job you want.
There is one thing the pols can do. They can get you a job in the Federal Bureaucracy, but you probably wouldn’t consider that a good change.
So what about paying off your 30 year mortgage?
Not a chance. But strangely enough if you stupidly took out a variable interest rate mortgage, which now you can’t afford to pay . . . then the politicians will take care of it for you, because . . . ? I’m not sure; maybe because there are only a few of you that were that stupid.
As for the taking better care of yourself . . . what’s that you say? No one tells you how to take care of yourself? You say if you want to eat the wrong stuff, spend your money foolishly, drive recklessly and drink too much that’s your business. Just make sure you have a free health plan and you’ll take care of the rest.
Sure, whatever happens, don’t YOU change.
